Hi! My name is Ian Carmen and I am a senior at Mount Hebron High School. Throughout the course of this school year I've been attending an internship at the Centers for Advanced Orthopedics, through the Intern/Mentor GT program.

Aspects of My Internship
Shaddowing/Observing
Typically on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I would attend my internship at the either the Ambulatory Surgical Center in Ellicott City, and the Clinical office in Eldersburg MD
Arthrex Lab
In partnership with Arthrex (a surgical tool manufacturer), Dr. Janz and I operated on a real cadaveric hand to asses the reliability and strength of a new treatment procedure for CMC arthritis.
Retrospective Study
To follow up on our lab, Dr Janz and I surveyed live patients who have received the modified procedure using the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) questionnaire.
